Model of The Week – Beatrice

Here at Cornwall Models & Promotions we are excited to promote our models individually through – Model of the Week!

Here, we’ll be showcasing a different star of the show, every week.

This week’s model was selected for different reasons than our previous winner, Waide (click here to read Waide’s story).

It takes something special to make it in this feature as we are very selective over the models that represent us, and personality matters just as much as appearance.

Let’s talk about our winner: Beatrice, age 36.

Beatrice already this year have worked with number of photographers for publications and promotions.

Moving to Cornwall 4 years ago, straight from Romania she is passionate about music, art, makeup and with a strong artistic side she has worked with photographers and stylists to create her incredibly versatile portfolio.

She is a brilliant example of how passionate and talent can come together to make and create a breath-taking image. Her words – “The sky is the limit “

Here’s what Beatrice had to say about her story and journey through the massively competitive world of modelling:

“I’m am passionate about music, art, makeup and have a strong artistic side. I am mum to two children and work full time as a manager at Benefit Cosmetics.  I’ll be 37 years old in July and I moved to uk almost 4 years ago straight from Romania.  – The sky is the limit 😊 “

Model of The Week – Waide

Here at Cornwall Models & Promotions we are excited to promote our models individually through – Model of the Week!

Here, we’ll be showcasing a different star of the show, every week.

This week’s model was selected for different reasons than our previous winner, Lara (click here to read Lara’s story).

It takes something special to make it in this feature as we are very selective over the models that represent us, and personality matters just as much as appearance.

Let’s talk about our winner: Waide, age 21.

Waide is already this year alone is on the cast of Netflix Sex Education as well as BBC One’s Poldark.

She has also modelled for Hidden Gems Jewellery in Devon, an incredible business supporting people develop and build employment skills by creating and selling jewellery and other handcrafted products from recycled and reclaimed metals.

She is the perfect example of how believing in yourself and never giving up your dreams is the best way to overcome your fears and grow. Her words – You only have one life so live it to the full “

Here’s what Waide had to say about her story and journey through the massively competitive world of acting and modelling:

“I don’t usually go by quotes; however, I do like this one: “difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”. I like it because it really does apply to acting and modelling. The industry is so tough but If you really go for it and put 100% into it, then great things can happen. Then you may be able to turn your dreams into a career.

I have had a few enquiry’s recently for more SA work and I did attend the Doc Martin auditions. Hopefully I will get a part in it but if not, then there will be other opportunities.

I absolutely love modelling and acting. I love it because it has massively boosted my confidence and enabled me to actually like who I am. I used to be incredibly anxious and quiet but acting/modelling helped me to overcome that. If you enjoy something and it brings you happiness then you should do it. Don’t listen to negativity and don’t let other people bring you down. I am only 5ft 1 and was told I would never succeed in modelling but I chose to ignore it.  Instead I chose to prove them wrong. You only have one life so live it to the full. “

Model of the Week – Lara

Having a baby?

Then it’s time to take maternity leave, but what about if you’re a model?

What if you’re Lara?

Lara is showing the world that pregnancy is beautiful and is capturing stunning moments every step of the way.

We love the idea that her baby bump enhances the message, so we’re getting her story out there!

Have a read:

“Up until this point, my journey as a model has been sporadic and has almost taken a back seat to my 15 year career as a Singer/Dancer.

The majority of my modelling work, has been for Holiday Companies as promotional material.

I was however privileged to shoot as a Bridesmaid for Whimsical Weddings Magazine most recently, which was incredible to be a part of.

I feel it’s now time to focus on my journey as a model. Especially during this time, my first pregnancy. It’s truly a wonderful feeling, knowing you are capturing moments with the tiny human you will love more than you have ever loved anything or anyone.

As a model I am quite open, and have a good background in Stage Make-Up and face painting. I’d welcome any opportunity to perhaps put this to good use.

I heard about Cornwall Models & Promotions on Facebook and I have to say, initially I was concerned that it might be a scam type scenario, as there are so many tricksters out there today.

Much to my delight, I have been welcomed with open arms, provided with the cutest and practical tool kit and supported every step of the way and met several fantastic photographers and models alike.

I would highly recommended working with Cornwall Models & Promotions. I have been very lucky and have had so many incredible experiences in my career so far to mention.

From cruise ships to touring pantomimes, with the famous and infamous faces we all know and love.

To be honest, never has there been an accomplishment I am more proud of than becoming a mother. Now, I just need to share this love with the world via the art of photography.”

Very inspiring, especially if you’re also a mother reading this.

Model of The Week – Darren

Meet Darren, our model of the week.

Darren has Spina bifida and is planning on taking the industry by storm!

His dreams won’t be stopped by a disability, and his message is loud and clear.

Darren’s aim is to empower all disabled individuals to go for it. To not let anything stop them from reaching their dreams.

Keep reading to see what Darren had to say:

“I’m very lucky and honored to be a model. But not just a model, a disabled model at the beginning of my modeling journey.

All I wanted to do was send out a message to all disabled people:

If I can do it, then so can you! Push for your dreams and what you believe in.

I absolutely love modeling and meeting many great people along the way.

My good friend Steve Martin told me about Cornwall Models and Promotions. The guys at CMP are all like a family, we get on so well and are there for each other.

They’ve given me the confidence to do what I do, and would love would say to people who are interested in modeling give it a go!”

Model of the Week – Justyna

Meet our world-wide published Model of the Week, Justyna!

This week’s model was selected for different reasons than our previous winner, Suzy (click here to read Suzy’s story).

So, let’s jump straight into it.

We know (from experience!) that everyone Justyna meets, finds her personality to be so unique, fun and lovable.

Which really makes us, as an equality-based agency, so proud!

But this is really just the beginning.

Justyna has built up a huge amount of momentum with her winning personality and look. She’s attracting attention from people on the other side of the world, as well as on her doorstep!

We love it when models like Justyna come along, as she really sets out a wonderful impression to younger, aspiring models to find a passion and run with it, no matter the draw backs and negativity encountered along the way.

Justyna shows us that with a winning positive personality and a love for your body, you attract all the right opportunities and can easily beat the industry standards!

Here is a little background, as told by her:

“My name is Justyna Sofia. I am a published Polish-Italian model, based in the UK, specialising in a wide spectrum of modelling including commercial, beauty, boudoir and fitness.

I am the most girliest girly girl I know!

I am 5’4 and have a slim but curvy physique.”

How amazing is that? Justyna is doing this well without even fitting the model body ‘norm’, showing us anything is possible!

“I am proudly representing Cornwall Models and Promotions and I enjoy being managed by Hayley.

I have been modelling for 20 years now but it’s not always been easy, as in the past I’ve been struggling with eating disorders that was caused by being a young girl in very competitive environment through comments that I was too curvy.

I had a break which lasted around 2 years when i had my son just over 3 years ago. but I have enjoyed it even more since I’ve been back!!

During the time I have been modelling I have been lucky enough to meet a whole host of fantastic people and accumulate both images and references that I am proud of.

Modelling has always been a huge passion of mine. My favorite genre is portraiture and boudoir. I absolutely LOVE working/meeting new people. I find it very rewarding collaborating with new photographers/models/MUAs etc…

My biggest aim is to always have a better shoot than the last.

Working with photographers of all levels, I have taken part in a few catwalk shows and I have had multiple publications over the years.

I have also had the opportunity to work very closely with an array of brands and designers. I have a forever growing portfolio though I am now focusing more on published work and working with more photographers around the world.”

Justyna’s story is very much one of her overcoming some very scarily common hurdles that life could throw at any of us, but she shows us that the key is to love what you do and keep your head up!

Model of The Week – Suzy

We at Cornwall Models & Promotions are excited to bring you our exclusive new feature – Model of the Week!

Here, we’ll be showcasing a different star of the show, every week.

We don’t just give this award away randomly though, it takes something special to make it in this feature. So what’s the big deal?

We’re very selective over the models that represent us, and personality matters just as much as appearance. Let’s take our first winner as a prime example: Suzy, age 67.

Suzy is one of our veteran models, with an incredibly impressive 30 years of experience in the industry!

She is the perfect example of defying the norm and holds everything we stand for in creating a diverse appreciation of society.

Suzy, rightly so, is in incredibly high demand at the moment for shoots and is currently proudly modelling for the vintage inspired label, Silly Old Sea Dog!

Here’s what Suzy had to say about her story and journey through the massively competitive modelling world:

My own story started at the tender age of ten, when I won a catwalk competition and thought ‘This is fun!’

Fast forward to my 20’s whereby I entered beauty and personality competitions and won quite a few, including Miss Cornwall Swimwear and Miss Cornwall Bikini, which in themselves led to me being asked to model. I couldn’t enter any of the larger beauty contests, as one had to be a ‘MISS’ and I was married’

When my modelling career started up, I did everything from promotions for Rolls Royce cars to appearing in and organising catwalk shows, and even modelling thermal undies for brochures.

One time I had to dress up as a She Devil for a building company leaflet shoot, and this was in the days before Fancy Dress shops, so my hubby had to make me a  Devil’s trident and I can remember carrying it, whilst walking up Redruth high street to the photographer’s studio, having some curious looks cast my way!

I always seemed to be modelling winter wear in summer ( designer jumpers on the hottest day in summer, comes to mind) and bikinis feeling frozen on an Autumn day. Last year even, I had to go in the sea on a cold November day for a national newspaper shoot. Such is life as a model…

Then eventually in my 30’s, because there weren’t any West Country model agencies, I started my own award winning national model agency – the first fully licenced one in three counties. I won the award for providing work in an unemployment Black Spot and for doing a lot of Charity fund raising with my models.

I was forced to retire at 40 due to a bad dose of Glandular Fever BUT I re-launched at 57 as a Mature Model and now ten years later I am busier than ever.

My proudest moments were being selected as a mature model, for an American book cover and other international magazine covers. It’s a super feeling to be a cover girl! I’ve been published the world over; including many times within a high end magazine in Sri Lanka – over there Senior Citizens start at age 57.

Whilst having done some TV and radio work as well; I’ve also turned down various invites for TV work like appearing in ‘Big Brother’ and ‘The Circle’ and a few chat shows too, as well as Judge Rinder programme lately, because that’s not what I’m about.

I recently appeared on the USA television show, The Ace Michaels Show broadcast from Los Angeles, which was great fun to do.

My favourite modelling work is photographic and I am at my happiest being creative in a studio or on location.

My advice to would-be models is, that whilst modelling looks glamorous, it’s jolly hard work.

The best thing any model can do, is get themselves a reliable and trustworthy model agent to guide them, through what can be sometimes, the modelling jungle.

As indeed Hayley does, my own agent at Cornwall Models & Promotions

Thank you Hayley x”

Suzy’s take-away message? ‘You are never too old to model’

How to Know If You Should Join a Model Agency

Thinking to kick-start your career in modelling but not sure where to start from?

Then you might be asking yourself “Have I got what it takes?” Or “should I join a modelling agency?” because it has always been a daunting task for every newbie to find out the right opportunities and most of them are afraid of getting caught in the WRONG HANDS!

If you can relate, then this article will help to answer all of your concerns regarding how to find the right modelling agency to open up a gateway to success!

Don’t be confused about having the perfect body, because there’s no such definition of beauty that exists, or at least not in the dictionary of Cornwall Models & Promotions.

We strongly believe that there should be an equal distribution of opportunities for every individual and every type of individual difference is a valuable asset to everyone.

You just need that fire in the belly for making the dreams come true!

Why You Should Register with A Modelling Agency

The answer is very simple, agencies are in the field and have more experience getting work.

They can easily get you more exposure and success, and one of the fun facts is, agency-based models tend to get paid more as compared to independent models!

Listed below are some more benefits of being represented by an agency:

  • The agencies protect their models. They screen and filter out the clients to ensure the safety of their models.
  • Agencies can get you more job opportunities because they have relationships with lots of potential clients who can give regular projects. On the other hand, models who work independently have to search out for the work themselves with higher chances of meeting the scammers.
  • You are likely to get higher pay being represented by a professional agency because models who work independent of an agency are more likely to undervalue their services. While an agency makes sure to get you the highest paying rates because they make money only if their models do. They also have their inbuilt status that models can leverage to make themselves seem more reputable.
  • They also provide legal assistance to their models and help them in all the legal matters and issues.
  • International exposure is another perk of being represented by a legitimate agency. You can get access to more international modelling opportunities with the help of your employer.
  • Agencies have the power to legitimize you. They help you to create a positive image in the market which results in getting more clients.

How To Be A Model

If you’re reading this post, then you or someone you know probably has a desire to step on the bandwagon and become a model.

But you may be of the belief that size zero, clear skin and 6’ plus height is what it takes to get there.

If that is the case, then you really need to continue reading this article because Cornwall Models & Promotions agency dares to challenge such beliefs.

We all are different, and these differences are what make us beautiful.

It doesn’t matter if you are short or tall, fair or dark, skinny or curvy.

It all depends that how much passion you have to achieve the career of your dreams and we’ll take care of everything else!

General Specifications and Categories Of Modelling

Let’s first talk about some general categories and basic requirements, then we’ll narrow down our discussion towards innovation and change in the modelling industry which agencies like us are bringing to revolutionize this industry.

Among the many categories of modelling, here is the list of the most well-known types;

  • Fashion Modelling: Such models work for designers, editorials, at runways or similar fashion campaigns. They need to be incredibly tall and thin and the size, height and age requirements for them are very strict as the clients want their models to have a lively, youthful appearance.
  • Commercial Modelling: Such models work for the advertisements and every kind of print media including billboards, magazine covers, product covers and even the shelves of the supermarket. They need to be appealing enough to make the buyers purchase that product which they are advertising. That’s why, the size, height and age requirements vary as each product have a different target audience with different liking and disliking.
  • Glamour Modelling: These models work for products like lingerie, swimwear and men’s magazines. They don’t need to be tall, but must have a certain physical appeal. No doubt, glamour models charge much higher as compared to fashion or commercial models but, you are recommended to peruse this field only if you are confident enough to display what it needs.
  • Plus size modelling: This is an emerging field which nobody could’ve imagined in the past. And surprisingly, the demand for plus sized models have been increasing because advertisers need them for areas where skinny models cannot fit in. If you are naturally curvy and confident enough show your talent to the world, then this field is for you.

Some other categories include fitness modelling, influencer modelling, real life modelling, kids and body part modelling.

There are very strict size requirements for fashion and commercial models while the other fields don’t ask for too much.

A fashion or commercial female model needs to be 5’8-11 inches tall, waist can be 22” to 26”, hips size varies between 32”-35” and age should be between 16 to 24 years.

While the requirements for a male fashion model are, 5’11 to 7’ height, 30” to 32” waist and they must possess impressive physique and body features to be a part of this industry. The age requirement is lenient and men of age 16-40 are eligible to peruse this career.

What Is the Problem with This Approach?

If you are a person who cannot meet the above criteria, you might be thinking that how unfair this approach is, right?

Many so-called modelling agencies work tirelessly to keep these standards in place.

But Cornwall Models and Promotions believes this is a very unnatural definition of beauty.

Such stereotypes are silently killing millions of dreams every day and causing ambitious youngsters to blindly transform themselves to become a part of this abnormal competition.

There are many who have become a social media sensation because of their unique features which are considered “odd” and “bizarre” in the mainstream fashion world.

But their huge fan following and admiration from the public is proof that people want to see variety and individuals to which they can relate to!

Who Is Behind This Unnatural Classification?

Now the question arises, if the audience is no longer interested in such a stereotypical approach to be a model, then why is the mainstream modelling industry still showing us the same things which are against the rules of individual differences?

The main obstacles in the way of fashion democracy are the agencies.

The motto of ordinary modelling agencies is earning big profits and they will continue to supply such models if the profit is there.

But no matter how much they resist to change; the industry will revolutionize one day.

We can see that the fashion industry has already started to respond to the diversified fashion needs and the concept of ‘plus sized models’ as an example.

Cornwall Models & Promotions is also playing its part to bring that positive change. We truly feel that things are not meant to be this way and there must not be such strict standards to stop people doing what they love.

We are doing this not as a publicity stunt, but to represent our world in a better way.

Bring the Change; Be A Part Of Cornwall Models and Promotions

No matter what your age, race, size, height or disability is, you can become a model and we’ll help you to achieve your dream career.

We’ll not gauge you based on these so-called standards because our motto is to encourage individualism and together, we can change the face of the fashion industry by revolutionizing it for the benefit of all.

We welcome all kind of diversities, shapes, sizes and colours to bring more realness in the fashion industry. Register yourself here to start a new era of your life and never forget to stop dreaming because only the Sky Is The Limit!

How Professional Models Help A Business To Stand Out

In today’s day and age, it seems that the focus is entirely on aesthetics. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to us, especially with the recent surge of social media. It’s almost impossible to escape this simple fact.

Where does that leave the industries that rely so heavily on aesthetics to market effectively? Simply put, there is an increasing amount of pressure to hop on the band wagon and take business to the internet.

But is it really as easy as just “taking business to the internet”?

Of course not, otherwise every business would be successful over-night.

Does that mean there’s a science to all of this? Definitely.

Let’s take it from the top: every man and his dog’s on social media, scrolling through his news feed for an average of 35 minutes a day.

Now you’ll probably see how important it is to understand how engrained society are to the web and anything media based. But how is this linked to marketing as a business?

It seems that the most effective way to reach and interrupt your potential customer is through relevant engagement with captivating graphics/individuals. This is where professional models burst onto the scene. While it may be easy to grab bob’s sister’s mate for a quick photoshoot for your product, the likelihood is that she’s going to provide average results, provoking an average reaction from your audience.

But, when you opt for the professional, like our “insert name here”, you’ll be guaranteed studio level, fluid and non-awkward imagery that grips your potential customer’s attention like a richly-baited fishing rod.

Take a look at what we mean, check out our hand-selected model’s portfolios here

How the Industry is Changing for the Better

Ten years ago, you can only be a successful model if you fit the strict criteria of the “perfect person”. Imagine this: 6-foot-tall, size 8, clear skin, strong bone structure, Anglo-Saxon background, and stick-thin. If you didn’t fit the criteria, not only would you not be as popular, your chances of making it big in the modeling and fashion industry were slim.

How unfair is that?

Imagine your dream was to become a model. If you were born on the shorter side, you can’t become a model because of strict height requirements. You can’t change your height; you were born that way.

If you are naturally curvy, how can you satisfy the expectation of being stick-thin?

What if you don’t have clear skin, a pointed nose, or struggle to fit into a pair of size 8 jeans?

These ideal standards are creating an unhealthy perception of perfect beauty to the everyday person. With the rise in social media, we are constantly comparing ourselves to models with more than 100,000 followers, perfect hair, skin free from imperfections, slim body, perfect everything. Not only is that unhealthy, it creates an unrealistic perception of the “perfect person”. When you see someone that reflects the idea of perfection, you want to look just like them, but what if you can’t?

Body image is a huge issue in society. Body image is how you see yourself when you look in the mirror or when you picture yourself in your mind. It has driven people to starvation, eating disorders, depression, and even suicide, because they feel the need to conform to the perfect image portrayed by mass media.

The idea of the “perfect person” has negatively influenced people to do all sorts of things in order to fit into the criteria. Many people have stood in front of the mirror criticizing their features and wondering ‘why am I ugly?’ or ‘why am I not skinny enough?’. Some have even bought a pair of jeans that is smaller than their size so that they can exercise more or even starve themselves in order to fit into the jeans. As a result of the unrealistic perception of the “perfect person”, these harsh psychological and physical implications are increasingly becoming an issue in society which needs to be addressed.

There is no one standard of perfection. Everyone has individual beauty but the stigma of the “perfect person” is cemented into our minds as a result of mass media idolizing the perfect body image. These characteristics shouldn’t define a person’s individual beauty but, they do.

At least until now.

The idea of the “perfect person” is changing for the better.

In today’s modelling and fashion industry, there is more diversity amongst models. Flip open a page of a fashion magazine and you will find models of all different ethnicities, ages, and body types. If you watch a television ad for a fashion company, you’ll find plus size models and disabled models. Watch a runway and you will find Asian, Indian, and African models. Hop onto an online store and there will be models of different appearances showcasing the latest fashion trends.

It is evident that the modelling industry has opened their eyes to different types of beauty, and this is revolutionary. The industry is more accepting of uniqueness, individuality and racial diversity, which is a big step, not only for everyday people but also for models. Models are treated more humanely by not being pressured to go on strict diets, making them less likely to succumb to eating disorders, or making sure that their appearance is perfect all day, every day.

At Cornwall Models and Promotions, we are huge advocates of positive body image, equality, and diversity in the modelling industry. We are an equality-based agency that strives to celebrate human nature to make sure that every individual gets a fair chance to demonstrate their unique beauty.

In order to boost awareness of body image, equality, and diversity, we host multiple awareness and fundraising events a year in order to break down the barriers of the “perfect person” in the modelling and fashion industry.

Why do we do this?

We don’t have a vision of the “perfect person”. We believe that everyone is beautiful in their own way, which is why they should not be subjected to such unrealistic and unhealthy standards of perfection. Body image is an important concept in our agency and we believe that there are serious implications if the image of the “perfect person” continues to be idolised in mass media.

What are your thoughts about the “perfect person”? Do you think the modelling industry is changing for the better?
